Caring for Your Canine: Bath Edition
Caring for a pet is a rewarding experience, and perhaps no animal serves best as a pet than a dog. Dogs are known as "man's best friend" for a reason, but unlike your BFF from down the street, your dog takes a lot of physical care and effort in order to stay in the best possible shape. In addition to a well-balanced diet and plenty of outdoor exercise, keeping your dog clean and groomed is an important part of routine care, but that can get expensive (if you choose to hire it out) or labor-intensive (if you opt for the DIY version). Keeping your pooch fresh doesn't have to be difficult though. Try these tips to make at-home pet care easier and make sure it doesn't end with a call to your local plumber:
Invest in a drain plug. These come in a variety of shapes and sizes, but they all accomplish the same basic goal; keeping hair OUT of the drain. These little baskets or drain inserts catch fur and other debris before it can go down the drain and cause clogs.
You're going to need towels...LOTS of towels. Save old towels that are no longer suitable for yourself or guests and save them for your pup's stash! Having multiple towels close at hand is an important part of drying your dog quickly and easily while keeping water OFF surfaces not included in bath time.
Try the Peanut Butter trick! Dog going nuts and causing a mess when it's time for a bath? Simply take a spoonful of peanut butter, smear it on the wall at your pet's level, and watch your dog enjoy licking it off bit by bit as you wash, condition, comb, and/or cut. This tip is a game changer if your dog is constantly moving and makes the job hard for you and professionals alike.
Use a nail sander! Safer than clipping, these little sanders are helpful in keeping nails short and safe. No more scratches on you, or marks on the floors/furniture.
